Best of the Web: The Free Personalized Daily Horoscope Email Service from Astrology.com

BackBack to Articles

From time to time we review products that we feel represent the best of astrology on the Web today. This one happens to be free!

Summary

I have tried a number of free daily horoscope email services, and continue to receive several every day, but in my mind the best by far is called Your Daily Forecast, offered by Astrology.com. This is a Best of the Web daily horoscope email service.

Why it’s so great

First, most daily horoscope emails are sun sign horoscopes, while Your Daily Forecast is personalized to your birth data. That alone is a major differentiator. But this is also the most extensive free daily horoscope email that I have seen.

Your Daily Forecast actually comes in two parts, Your Summary Forecast, which is emailed to you every day, and Your Extended Forecast, which lives on the Astrology.com site and gives you more information about what is going on astrologically.

Each day Your Summary Forecast email shows you four transit charts with text – the day’s lead transit, and then one each for Love, Energy and Career. Through a link at the bottom of the email, you can go to a secure page on the Astrology.com site that gives you Your Extended Forecast as well as the original Your Summary Forecast that you received by email. When you’re on the site, you can also pick any day from 1916 through 2009 and see your personal forecast for that day.

Atta boy/girl/writer/programmer person!

This combination of text and charting is where I believe astrology on the Web should be going, and Astrology.com gets kudos for pointing the way. I also like the fact that Astrology.com identifies the writer, Kim Rogers-Gallagher, an accomplished astrological writer who deserves credit for clearly explaining how astrological influences can impact our daily lives.

Taken altogether, this service is a triumph that combines excellent writing and programming.

One negative

OK, so now let me tell you one thing about this service that should be improved in my opinion. As it is right now, the short-term and long-term transits get jumbled up together in both Your Summary Forecast and Your Extended Forecast, which I think is unnecessarily confusing for the reader. Why is a Moon transit lasting a few hours lumped together with a Saturn transit that may last months? The reader loses all sense of proportion.

I would prefer to see all the short-term transits packaged in the daily Your Summary Forecast email (along with long-term transits on the day they are exact), and then see all the long-term transits placed together on the Web site, where they belong under Your Extended Forecast. I also suggest changing the Your Summary Forecast name to Your Daily Forecast, which would be more accurate.

How to subscribe

Go to the Astrology.com home page and click on the Astrology Readings tab at the upper right of the page. From that page, select Free Sample Readings in the navigation bar near the top of the page.

On the Free Sample Readings page, sign up for any one of the free sample readings. From there you will go to a Profile page where you submit your complete birth information, including hour and city or town.

After that page you get to sign up for one or more free newsletters. Sign up for the one under the Astrology header that is called “Daily Cosmic Calendar.” (I don’t know why it’s called that on this page.)

Another good thing — now that you have gone through this process, your astrological profile is stored on Astrology.com. When you want to order another free report, or a full-length priced report, you don’t have to enter your birth information all over again.

To supplement your daily email…

As good as this daily email service is, I still like the idea of supplementing it with a 12-month personalized horoscope report, which I believe presents long-term information in a way that helps the reader better focus on the big picture. Here are four reports from Astrology.com that do this, and/or provide a different focus or perspective on what is coming up:

Astrology.com One Year Planetary Preview
A total bargain at $10
Women’s Forecast
Written woman to woman, $20
Jobs & Money Forecast
The best I’ve seen on this topic, $35
Romantic Forecast
Well done, $35
